‘Nothing is as it seems but everything is exactly like it is.’ – Yogi Berry.
By questioning what is real and what is an illusion in my practice, I try to understand how our memories change over time. My current body of work explores patterns and attempts to unearth answers that I may never find. Inspired by the Athangudi tiles of my hometown Chettinad (Tamil Nadu, South India), I have recreated these tiles by sealing pages of discarded books; the words symbolise information we must navigate to discover the truth.
The Kolam designs, with their twists and turns, reference the endless flow and ultimate unity of life. Their impermanence is a reminder of the transitory nature of the material world and that இதுவும் கடந்து போகும் (this too shall pass).
